Crochet Granny Square Coaster Free Pattern

Today i am sharing the Granny Square Coaster crochet pattern with you. The coasters are worked in the round with top side always facing throughout. 
These can be used individually as coasters or joined together to create tablecloths, blankets, tops, dresses, etc.

Written Pattern:


Size: The coaster measures approx. 16x16 cm (6.3x6.3 inches).

Skill Level: Easy to Intermediate.

Gauge: 11 stitches = 5 cm (2 inches) in double crochet.

Materials Used:

  • Fingering weight cotton yarn, size 1 - super fine. I used Alize Bella Batik Design yarn in the colorway 1815.
  • 3mm crochet hook.
  • Scissors.
  • Yarn needle or Latch hook for weaving in ends. Or, you can use a crochet hook.

Abbreviations (US terms):

st. - stitch
ch - chain
sl st. - slip stitch
sc - single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
dc - double crochet

ch3picotch3, insert your hook into the center of the base stitch (or, insert the hook into first ch), yarn over, pull through all loops on the hook.

()* - repeat the instructions between the brackets the number of times indicated.







Instructions:

Start with ch4, join with a sl st. into first ch to form a ring.

Round 1: ch3 (counts as a dc), (2dc, ch2, 3dc, ch2, 3dc, ch2, 3dc, ch2) into the ring.
Join with a sl st. on top of the ch3.

Round 2: ch3 (counts as a dc), 1dc into next 2 sts, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) into next ch2 space, 
(1 dc into next 3 sts, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) into next ch2 space)* repeat 3 times around.
Join with a sl st. on top of the ch3.

Round 3: ch3 (counts as a dc), 1dc into next 4 sts, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) into next ch2 space,
(1dc into next 7 sts, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) into next ch2 space)* repeat 3 times around.
1dc into next 2 sts, join with a sl st. on top of the ch3.

Round 4: ch3 (counts as a dc), 1dc into next 6 sts, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) into next ch2 space,
(1dc into next 11 sts, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) into next ch2 space)* repeat 3 times around.
1dc into next 4 sts. Join with a sl st. on top of the ch3.

Round 5: ch3 (counts as a dc), 1dc into next 8 sts, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) into next ch2 space,
(1dc into next 15 sts, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) into next ch2 space)* repeat 3 times around.
1dc into next 6 sts. Join with a sl st. on top of the ch3.

Round 6: ch1, 1sc into the base of that ch1, (ch3, skip 1st., 1sc into next st.)* repeat 5 times, (ch3, 1sc, ch3) into next ch2 space, 1sc into next st..
((ch3, skip 1 st., 1sc into next st.)*9 times, (ch3, 1sc, ch3) into next ch2 space, 1sc into next st.)* repeat 3 times around.
(ch3, skip 1st, 1sc into next st.)* repeat 3 times. Join with ch1 + 1hdc into first sc.

Round 7: ch1, 1sc into (ch1 + 1hdc) space of the previous round, (ch3, 1sc into next ch3 space)* repeat 6 times, ch5, 1sc into next ch3 space,
((ch3, 1sc into next ch3 space)*10 times, ch5, 1sc into next ch3 space)* repeat 3 times around.
(ch3, 1sc into next ch3 space)* repeat 3 times, ch3. Join with a sl st. into the first sc.


Round 8: sl st. into next ch3 space, ch1, 1sc into that same ch3 space, ch3, 1sc into next ch3 space, (3dc, ch3picot, 3dc) into next ch3 space, 1sc into next ch3 space, ch3, 1sc into next ch3 space, ch3, 1sc into next ch3 space, (5dc, ch3picot, 5dc) into next ch5 space, 1sc into next ch3 space,
(ch3, 1sc into next ch3 space, ch3, 1sc into next ch3 space, (3dc, ch3picot, 3dc) into next ch3 space, 1sc into next ch3 space, ch3, 1sc into next ch3 space, (3dc, ch3picot, 3dc) into next ch3 space, 1sc into next ch3 space, ch3, 1sc into next ch3 space, ch3, 1sc into next ch3 space, (5dc, ch3picot, 5dc) into next ch5 space, 1sc into next ch3 space)* repeat 3 times around.
ch3, 1sc into next ch3 space, ch3, 1sc into next ch3 space, (3dc, ch3picot, 3dc) into next ch3 space. Join with a sl st. into the first sc.

Ch1, cut off the yarn, fasten off and weave in the ends.
