Today i'd like to introduce you to the Textured Doily / Placemat crochet pattern. Popcorn stitch design gives the doily a lovely texture look. This pattern can be also turned into a rug by using a thick yarn and a large crochet hook.

Written Pattern:
Size: The doily measures approx. 29 cm (11.4 inches) in diameter.
Skill Level: Easy to Intermediate.
Gauge: 12 sts = 5 cm (2 inches) in double crochet.
Materials Used:
- Sport weight mercerized 100% cotton yarn, size 2 - fine. I used Madame Tricote Paris Camilla yarn in the colorway 6313 (pink). 47 grams of yarn needed for this pattern.
- 3mm crochet hook.
- Scissors.
- Yarn needle or Latch hook for weaving in ends. Or, you can use a crochet hook.
Abbreviations (US terms):
st. - stitch
ch - chain
sl st. - slip stitch
hdc - half double crochet
dc - double crochet
dc2(3)tog - 2 or 3 double crochet closed together
dc3(4)popcorn - 3 or 4 double crochet popcorn stitch - work 3 or 4dc in the same stitch (space). Drop loop from the hook, insert your hook from front to back into the first dc. Place dropped loop on the hook and pull through stitch.
()* - repeat the instructions between the brackets the number of times indicated.
Instructions:
Start with ch5 and join with a sl st. into first ch to form a ring.
Or, you can make a magic (adjustable) ring.
Round 1: ch3 (counts as a dc), 15dc into the ring.
Join with a sl st. on top of the ch3.
Round 2: ch3: counts as a dc), 1dc into the base of that ch3,
2dc into each st. around.
Join with a sl st. on top of the ch3.
Round 3: ch3 (counts as a dc), 1dc into the base of that ch3, 1dc into next st.,
(2dc into next st., 1dc into next st.)*repeat 15 times around.
Join with a sl st. on top of the ch3.
Round 4: ch3 (counts as a dc), 1dc into the base of that ch3, 1dc into next 2 sts,
(2dc into next st., 1dc into next 2 sts)* repeat 15 times around.
Join with a sl st. on top of the ch3.
Round 5: ch3 (counts as a dc), 1dc into the base of that ch3, 1dc into next 3 sts,
(2dc into next st., 1dc into next 3 sts)* repeat 15 times around.
Join with a sl st. on top of the ch3.
Round 6: ch3 (counts as a dc), ch1,
(skip 1st., 1dc into next st., ch1)* repeat 39 times around.
Join with a sl st. on top of the ch3.
Round 7: sl st. into next ch1 space, ch3 (counts as a dc), dc2tog into that same ch1 space, ch3,
(dc3tog into next ch1 space, ch3)* repeat 39 times around.
Join with a sl st. on top of the dc2tog.
Round 8: sl st. into next ch3 space, ch3 (counts as a dc), dc2tog into that same ch3 space,
(ch3, dc3tog into next ch3 space)* repeat 39 times around.
Join with ch1 + 1hdc into dc2tog.
Round 9: ch3 (counts as a dc), ch3,
(1dc into next ch3 space, ch3)* repeat 39 times around.
Join with a sl st. on top of the ch3.
Round 10: ch3 (counts as a dc), 3dc into next ch3 space,
(1dc into next st., 3dc into next ch3 space)* repeat 39 times around.
Join with a sl st. on top of the ch3.
Round 11: ch3 (counts as a dc), ch1,
(skip 1st., 1dc into next st., ch1)* repeat 79 times around.
Join with a sl st. on top of the ch3.
Round 12: sl st. into next ch1 space, ch3 (counts as a dc), dc3popcorn into that same ch1 space, ch3,
(dc4popcorn into next ch1 space, ch3)* repeat 79 times around.
Join with a sl st. on top of the ch3.
Ch1, cut off the yarn, fasten off and weave in the ends.
