Round Decorative Doily Placemat Crochet Pattern

Today I have a simple yet elegant crochet Round Decorative Doily Placemat pattern to share with you. It is made in 14 rounds using 100% cotton yarn. If you can crochet in the round and know how to work the basic crochet stitches, you are good to go.

Written Pattern:

Size: The doily placemat measures approximately 31 cm (12.2 inches) in diameter.

Skill Level: Easy to Intermediate

Materials Used:
  • Sport weight yarn, size 2 - fine. I used Drops Safran 100% cotton yarn weight/length: 50 g = approx 160 m in colorways 28 (orange) and 04 (sage green). 31 grams (100 meters approx.) of yarn needed for this pattern.
  • 3mm crochet hook.
  • Scissors.
  • Yarn needle or Latch hook for weaving in ends. Or, you can use a crochet hook.

Abbreviations (US terms):

st./sts - stitch
ch - chain
sl st. - slip stitch
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet

ch4picot - ch4, insert your hook into center of the base stitch, yarn over, pull through all loops on the hook.

()* - repeat the instructions between the brackets the number of times indicated.


Instructions:

Start with ch5, sl st. into first ch to form a ring. Or, make a magic (adjustable) ring.

Round 1: ch3 (counts as a dc), 15dc into ring.
Join with a sl st. on top of beginning ch3. (16 sts)

Round 2: ch3 (counts as a dc), ch1,
(1dc into next st., ch1)* repeat 15 times around.
Join with a sl st. into 3rd ch of beginning ch3.

Round 3: ch3 (counts as a dc), 2dc into next ch1 space,
(1dc into next dc st., 2dc into next ch1 space)* repeat 15 times around.
Join with a sl st. on top of the beginning ch3. (48 sts)

Round 4: ch3 (counts as a dc), ch2,
(skip next st., 1dc into next st., ch2)* repeat 23 times around.
Join with a sl st. into 3rd ch of beginning ch3.

Round 5: ch3 (counts as a dc), 2dc into next ch2 space,
(1dc into next dc st., 2dc into next ch2 space)* repeat 23 times around.
Join with a sl st. on top of beginning ch3. (72 sts)

Round 6: ch3 (counts as a dc), ch2,
(skip next st., 1dc into next st., ch2)* repeat 35 times around.
Join with a sl st. into 3rd ch of beginning ch3.


Round 7: ch3 (counts as a dc), 2dc into next ch2 space,
(1dc into next dc st., 2dc into next ch2 space)* repeat 35 times around.
Join with a sl st. on top of beginning ch3. (108 sts)

Round 8: ch3 (counts as a dc), ch2,
(skip next st., 1dc into next st., ch2)* repeat 53 times around.
Join with a sl st. into 3rd ch of beginning ch3.

Round 9: ch3 (counts as a dc), 2dc into next ch2 space,
(1dc into next dc st., 2dc into next ch2 space)* repeat 53 times around.
Join with a sl st. on top of beginning ch3. (162 sts)


Round 10:
ch3 (counts as a dc), 1dc into next st., ch1,
(skip next st., 1dc into next 2 sts, ch1)* repeat 53 times around.
Join with a sl st. on top of beginning ch3.

Round 11: sl st. into next st., sl st. into next ch1 space, ch1, 1sc into same ch1 space, 
(ch4, 1sc into next ch1 space)* repeat 53 times around.
Ch1 + 1dc into first sc at the beginning of the round to make last ch4.

Round 12: ch1, 1sc into that (ch1 + 1dc) space of the previous round,
(ch5, 1sc into next ch4 space)* repeat 53 times around.
Ch2 + 1dc into first sc at the beginning of the round to make last ch5.

Round 13: ch1, 1sc into that (ch2 + 1dc) space of the previous round, 9dc into next ch5 space,
(1sc into next ch5 space, 9dc into next ch5 space)* repeat 26 times around.
Join with a sl st. into first sc at the beginning of the round.

Round 14: (ch5, skip next 4 sts, 1sc into next st., ch4picot, ch5, skip next 4 sts, sl st. into next st.)* repeat 27 times around.

Ch1, cut off the yarn, fasten off and weave in the ends.

  1. I have just made this and it's so lovely. Would it be possible to make it larger by increasing the rows? Maybe more of the middle rows?
