This time I would like to share my Honeycomb Tote Bag crochet pattern with you.
The rectangular base is worked in turned rows, the body of the bag is worked in joined rounds and the straps are made as separate pieces and attached to the bag after it's completed.
The pattern uses basic crochet stitches (US crochet terminology) - chain, slip stitch, single crochet and double crochet.
I used DK weight (size 3 - light) YarnArt Macrame cord type polyester yarn (thickness - 2 mm) and a 3,5 mm (E4) crochet hook.

Written Pattern:
Finished Size: Height without handle straps: 32 cm (12,6'')
Width: 33 cm (13'')
Depth: 8 cm (3,15'')
Skill Level: Easy (advanced beginner)
Materials Used:
- DK weight cord type polyester yarn, size 3 - light. Cord thickness - 2 mm. I used YarnArt Macrame - (90 grams / 130 meters) - 100% Polyester in color 155. 3 skeins (approx 390 metres) needed for this pattern.
- 3,5 mm (E4) crochet hook.
- Scissors.
- Yarn needle.
- 4 Stitch markers.
- Measuring tape
Abbreviations (US terms):
st./sts - stitch / stitches sp. - space
ch - chain sk - skip
sl st. - slip stitch
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
( )* - repeat the instructions between the brackets the number of times indicated.
Instructions:
The Base
Ch14
Row 1: 1sc into 2nd ch from hook, 1sc into each ch across. (14 sc sts)
Row 2 - 51: ch1 (doesn't count as st.), turn, 1sc into each st ascross. (14 sc sts)
Do not fasten off!
The Body
Round 1: We will work around the perimeter of the base in a counterclockwise direction!
ch1 (doesn't count as a st.), 1sc into each of next 50 sts across one side, 1sc into each of next 14 sts across second side, 1sc into each of next 50 sts across third side, 1sc into each of 14 sts across last side. Join with a sl st. into first sc st.
(128 sc sts)
You can place a stitch marker into first sc st. to mark the beginning of round.
Round 2 - 3: ch1 (doesn't count as a st.), 1sc into same st., 1sc into each st. around. Join with a sl st. into first sc st. (128 sc sts)
Round 4: ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc into next st., ch2,
(sk 2 sts, 1dc into next 2 sts, ch2)* repeat 31 times around.
Join with a sl st. into 3rd ch of beginning ch3.
Round 5: ch1 (doesn't count as a st.), 1sc into same st., 1sc into next st., 2sc into next ch2 sp.,
(1sc into next 2 sts, 2sc into next ch2 sp.)* repeat 31 times around.
Join with a sl st. into first sc st. (128 sc sts)
Round 6: sl st. into next 2 sts., ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc into next st., ch2,
(sk 2 sts, 1dc into next 2 sts, ch2)* repeat 31 times around.
Join with a sl st. into 3rd ch of beginning ch3.
Round 7: ch1 (doesn't count as a st.), 1sc into same st., 1sc into next st., 2sc into next ch2 sp.,
(1sc into next 2 sts, 2sc into next ch2 sp.)* repeat 31 times around.
Join with a sl st. into first sc st. (128 sc sts)
Round 8 - 35: repeat Round 6 & 7
Join with a sl st. into first sc st. (128 sc sts)
Fasten off, weave in all ends.
The Straps (make 2)
Leave a tail (approx 30 cm (12'') for sewing.
Ch6
Row 1: 1sc into 2nd ch from hook, 1sc into each ch across. (5 sc sts)
Row 2 - 97: ch1 (doesn't count as a st.), turn, 1sc into each st. across. (5 sc sts)
Fasten off, leaving a tail (approx 30 cm (12'')) for sewing.
The length of the strap - approx 50 cm (20'').
Attach the straps
Lay your bag on a
flat surface and place stitch markers approx 9 cm (3,5’’) from
the sides of the bag (make sure that they are in the same place on both sides).
Weave in all ends.
